Arguably the greatest college football program in history, the University of Alabama has won well over 800 games, earned 14 national championships, claimed 26 conference titles and seven division crowns, made an NCAA-record 59 postseason bowl appearances, won an NCAA-record 34 bowl games and enjoyed 31 double-digit-win seasons. The Crimson Tide began playing football as an Independent in 1892 and was a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1895-1921, the Southern Conference from 1922-32 and the Southeastern Conference from 1933 to the present. National championships came in 1925 (10-0 record), 1926 (9-0-1), 1930 (10-0), 1934 (10-0), 1941 (9-2), 1961 (11-0), 1964 (10-1), 1965 (9-1-1), 1973 (11-1), 1978 (11-1), 1979 (12-0), 1992 (13-0), 2009 (14-0) and 2011 (12-1). Alabama won six consecutive bowl games following the 1975-80 seasons, five in a row between 1991 and 1996, and its last three through the 2011 season. The Tide has been playing home games at Bryant-Denny Stadium since 1929. The first game was a 55-0 victory over Mississippi College on September 28, 1929, in front of 6,000 fans. Alabama has won more than 80 percent of the games played there through the decades. The current capacity is 101,821 and the record attendance is 102,437 for a game against LSU on November 5, 2011.
