One of the most successful franchises in NFL history, the Dallas Cowboys have appeared in eight Super Bowls - tied for first with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Cowboys won five of those games, tied with the San Francisco 49ers for second most Super Bowl wins in NFL annals.  Dallas has also earned 21 division titles and made 30 playoff appearances through the 2011 season.  Tom Landry, one of the winningest coaches in professional football history, led the club to two Super Bowl victories during the 1970s (VI and XII), with teams starring safety Mel Renfro, quarterback Roger Staubach and the famed Doomsday Defense.  Other Dallas standouts during this period included several future Hall of Fame members, including running back Tony Dorsett and wide receivers Tony Hill and Drew Pearson.  On defense, end Ed "Too Tall" Jones and tackle Randy White, also a future Hall of Famer, were two of the era's most feared pass-rushers.  The team won three Super Bowls in a four-year span during the early to mid-1990s, with lineups featuring quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin.  The Cowboys qualified for the postseason in 1999 for the ninth time in 10 years.  Dallas also made it into the playoffs in 2003 (10-6), 2006 (9-7), 2007 (13-3) and 2009 (11-5), but won only one playoff game.  Quincy Carter passed for 3,302 yards for the 2003 team.  In 2006, Julius Jones rushed for 1,084 yards, Terry Glenn and Terrell Owens combined for 2,227 receiving yards, DeMarcus Ware recorded 11.5 sacks, and Roy Williams made five interceptions.  Tony Romo passed for 4,211 yards and 36 TDs, Jason Witten and Owens combined for 2,500 yards receiving and 22 TDs, Greg Ellis and Ware combined for 26.5 sacks, and Anthony Henry and Ken Hamlin combined for 11 interceptions in 2007.  The 2009 team featured Romo (4,483 yards passing), Miles Austin and Witten (combined 2,350 receiving yards), Ware (11 sacks), and Mike Jenkins (5 interceptions).
